The American Revolution may look like the noble battle for freedom and liberties. However, it certainly had other, more specific reasons. Taxes were not too high to provoke colonies for such a drastic move as a revolution. Taxes were more like the symbol of the American Colonies’ dependency on the British government. The problem was in the lack of understanding of the real situation by London. The British imperialists perceived the American Colonies as their property. Therefore, these lands and people were obliged to provide everything demanded without questions and right to oppose. The colonists had a different opinion. They had colonized these areas with hard work. Thus, they believed that since “motherland” demanded taxes, it had to provide them with the same rights as the mainland habitats had. Among these rights are civil liberties and the right to present own interests in government via the elected representatives.

The British government suspended these liberties, civil government in Massachusetts, for example. It means that so distant mainland had left colonies without the basic freedom. The colonists had realized that having no right to rule their lives on their land posed a great danger to their future, and they rebelled. Considering these ideas, one can conclude that the American Revolution was about the future and people's freedom to control their lives. Taxes were only the necessary spark that ignited the Revolution. It is possible that proper management of the colonists’ right and adequate representation of their voices in governments of all levels could have shaped a different political map to this day.
