A spokesperson from Blizzard entertainment told 2022

The NSA in 2008 began to gather World of Warcraft metadata in an attempt to connect accounts or guilds, characters and guilds to Islamic extremism, as well as arms-dealing groups. Through its information-gathering efforts the NSA discovered that certain World of Warcraft subscribers were in reality "telecom engineers ambassador drivers WoW WoTLK Classic Gold, researchers as well as military personnel and different intelligence services," the documents show.

A spokesperson from Blizzard entertainment told the Guardian, "We are unaware of any surveillance taking place. If it did happen the case, it could have been carried out without our consent or knowledge." In the meantime, representatives from Second Life and Microsoft declined to speak to. It remains unclear how the government agencies could get access to the user's data, and how extensive the spying actually was.

Activision Blizzard's 2018 Proxy Statement reveals that the company has eliminated a program known as"the Blizzard Holiday Plan. However, the company claims it's merely rearranged to ensure that money gets into employees' hands in response to their feedback.
